This is to chronicle my adventures on the USS Midway as a Docent. I was a civilian - I did not serve in the military, but I have respect for those that did.

I was the Docent of the Watch - this time for a special night event.

It was a High School Reunion of students from Yokosuka Japan - where the Midway was home-ported. Many of the reunion-ers had Dad's who were either stationed on the ship there, or worked on board as civilians there. Very cool. I met grads from 1977 thru 1990 - quite a range. They really had a good time and were very glad to be back on board for their special party.

They had a dinner - and the host invited me, and my crew, to help our selves after our ship tours were complete. The carved roast beef and steamed vegies were fab! Not to mention the choc chip cookies. I didn't touch the cheese cake - it looked too good.

I was the Docent of the Watch (DOW) this morning on the ship. Luckily I had a full compliment of docents and few additional walk-ons as well. The only complication was the fact that Safety/Security only had two individuals on board. I kept my 'rovers' on call to assist them, if necessary.

The ship was full of special tours and events today. We had 33 individuals from KFC on a private tour, two Navy Retirement ceremonies, two Education tours with 35 students each, a VIP group from a Senator's office, and the family of Admiral Cassidy getting a private tour. Whew.

The 4th of July was great on the ship - what a turnout!

In the morning I gave tour to two officers: Lt in the Army and a Lt from the Navy. It was a father / son combo. They had a great time.
